Beyond location, activities and marking materials, the most important aspect of any camp program are the counselors. You must feel comfortable with their ability to supervisor and care for your child. Always ask questions and continue to do so until your curiosity is satisfied. A parent’s intuition is a valuable asset.
The Fair Oaks Recreation and Park District’s Camp Fair Oaks encourages questions about the program, activities and staff.
We are proud of the young adults we hire to conduct our camp activities. Throughout the hiring process, we are evaluating our needs and specific skills of each candidate. Each potential staff member is required to and extensive background check, including LiveScan.
Most of our staff are over the age of 18. Just as any employer, we look for certain qualities in potential staff, including previous experience with children, adaptability, an outgoing and fun attitude, dependability, and trustworthiness. Upon hiring, all counselors undergo a training prior to the start of camp, including CPR and First aid.
Most of our staff consists of college students with intended majors in the education, recreation and child development fields.
